SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1999--
LAUNCH Media Inc. (Nasdaq:LAUN), in cooperation with Interscope Records and MTV's "120 Minutes," Tuesday announced a new contest to create the official music video for Interscope recording artists Folk Implosion, a duo featuring Lou Barlow from Sebadoh and solo artist John Davis.
This innovative one-month-long contest for budding directors will be available exclusively on LAUNCH.com beginning Tuesday, Oct. 12.
LAUNCH has created a custom-content area of LAUNCH.com where members will find raw footage of Folk Implosion performing their single "Free To Go," shot in a recording studio against blue-screen, exclusively for this contest. Users will be able to download the footage and edit their own music videos, creating custom backgrounds and environments for the performers.
Several different takes and camera angles will be available for contest entrants, creating a multitude of possibilities and creative freedom. Entrants will submit their videos on VHS or Beta via post to LAUNCH.com. Each video submitted into the contest will then be judged by a small panel of artists and directors, and the top five entries will then be put onto LAUNCH.com, where members will vote for their favorite video.
The grand prize winner will have his/her video aired on MTV's cutting-edge program "120 Minutes" in early 2000. As well, the winner's final cut will be played on the LAUNCH Red-Eye Network and be available in LAUNCH.com's music video section. The music video will be available for viewing in both Windows Media and RealPlayer formats.
Folk Implosion is currently promoting their latest album, "One Part Lullaby."
"LAUNCH is dedicated to giving members promotions that are unique and fun," said Ted Mico, vice president, marketing and promotions, LAUNCH. "We initiated this `direct your own music video' concept to provide a more interactive forum for our users, as well as continue to show our support for emerging acts."
